Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb black beans soaked overnight
  • 1 lb pork shoulder cut into chunks
  • 0.5 lb bacon chopped
  • 0.5 lb smoked sausage sliced
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6 cups water

Instructions 

  1. Drain and rinse the soaked black beans.
  2. In a large pot, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, brown the pork shoulder and sausage. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add the onion and garlic to the pot, sauté until softened.
  5. Return the bacon, pork, and sausage to the pot. Add the beans, bay leaves, salt, pepper, and water.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours, until beans are tender.
